We can service and repair up and over doors from all leading manufacturers who include Garador, Hormann, Cardale, Henderson, Novoferm, Compton, Apex, Birtley, King, Marley and Wessex.
Up and over doors do last a long time and where possible we can often obtain spare parts for doors that are over forty years old and return them to good working condition.
An up & over garage door with canopy lifting gear has no horizontal tracks running back into the garage, one-third of the door protrudes from the garage whilst in the open position, forming a canopy, hence a canopy door.
The most likely problem with a canopy geared door will be that one of the two cables connecting the spring tension to lift the door brakes or becomes tangled. This will cause the door to be unbalanced and so difficult to open or close. The repair will be to replace both the cables and the guide cones.
The other point of wear on a canopy door will be the roller spindles. These guide the door up and down the vertical tracks on each side of the door frame. Overtime they may seize up and stop rotating making the door more difficult to lift and lower.
The spring tension on a canopy door is adjustable. When adjusted correctly a canopy door should rest half way through it’s travel.
An up & over garage door with retractable lifting gear opens along horizontal tracks that run back into the garage. When the garage door is in the open position, the bottom of the door panel sits flush with the opening, hence fully retractable.
The most common problem with a fully retractable door will be spring failure.
We stock a very wide range of lifting springs to suite doors from most manufacturers. Whilst not always essential it is worth considering replacing both springs. When properly adjusted a retractable door should rest half way through it’s travel.
